No key needed to open, it can be opened every time it holds $10.00 by upshing in the lower front where it reads uncle sam's 3 coin register bank. It will hold up to $50. There is also a small hole in the back to insert rolled dollar bills and dollar coins/pennies. It measures 6 1/8 tall, 5 1/4 across the side and 4 1/2 iwde across the front.
